Meet Elizabeth S. Crowley
Born and raised in Middle Village, Elizabeth’s desire to serve the people of New York has been fueled by three generations of family service to the City. Now living in Glendale with her two children, Owen and Dennis, Council Member Crowley continues to serve the community she has called home her entire life. Elizabeth is the first Democrat and first woman to represent the 30th Council District.
Elizabeth’s first hand knowledge of the issues affecting those living and working in the district has made her an invaluable asset to the community. Elizabeth has worked to stop over development, improve services for seniors, make health care more beneficial for all, protect our parks, and ensure that local schools continue to improve.
Elizabeth’s two sons, Owen and Dennis, currently attend Intermediate School 119 in Glendale. Given her past experiences working for a not-for profit education and workforce development, Elizabeth will continue to use her background in education to improve the school system. Elizabeth vows to keep class sizes small, attract and retain teachers, and to continue her push to ensure students master one skill set before being pushed to the next. According to Elizabeth, teachers should be given all the resources they need in order to give our children the best education possible.
In these unsure economic times, Elizabeth holds onto her small business experience. She believes that small partnerships will stimulate the economy and allow for job growth to begin again. Elizabeth participated in managing economic recovery after the tragic events of September 11th when she helped administer $32 million in the New York City Emergency Employment Grant.
Council Member Crowley received her Masters Degree in City and Regional Planning from Pratt Institute’s Graduate School of Architecture where she studied architecture and historic preservation along with environmental and city planning. Elizabeth holds a Bachelors Degree in Restoration/Preservation from SUNY Fashion Institute of Technology where she graduated Magna Cum Laude and participated in the school's Presidential Scholars program. After graduating, Elizabeth gained experience as a member of the D.C. 9 International Union of Painters and Allied Trades. There, she worked throughout the City of New York restoring historical landmarks such as the Central Synagogue, Radio City, and Saint Patrick’s Cathedral.
Elizabeth Crowley was elected in November 2008. Winning by an overwhelming majority, Elizabeth's election has shown that the people of District 30 are hungry for change and know that Elizabeth cares for the community. Her district covers the areas of Ridgewood, Glendale, Middle Village, Woodhaven, Richmond Hill and Maspeth. Council Member Crowley is invested in making our community better, not only now, but in the future.
